Google Asked to Remove a Billion 'Pirate' Search Results in a Year (torrentfreak.com) 68 Posted by msmash on Monday November 28, 2016 @05:20PM from the keeping-'em-busy dept.
If you sell your video courses, software or other digital products on the Internet, chances are that your work has already been pirated. This can be frustrating.
A quick way to fight back is to remove those pirate sites from Google search results.
Step 1: Log into your Google account
For these steps to work, you need a Google account. If you don't have one, create one now.
Step 2: Double-check you have the correct site
If your title is mentioned on a pirate site, you should first check whether it is actually possible to download the file. Make sure there is actual piracy before you report any site to Google.
Step 3: Fill out the Google copyright infringement form
This form can be found here:
Here's how to fill it out:
- First name and Last name, Email address, Country / Region: self-explanatory
- Copyright holder you represent: Usually, this will be yourself.
- Identify and describe the copyrighted work: Here, a very short text is enough. For example, if your name is John Doe and you have published a book called 'Self-Help in the Information Age', then you would write something like this:
Book 'Self-Help in the Information Age', written by John Doe and self-published on Amazon.com - Where can we see an authorized example of the work?
'Authorized example' simply means that Google wants to see some kind of information about your work on the Internet. Of course you don't need to send them the entire book. As proof, it is enough to send them your sales page. Or, if you self-published your work on Amazon, the Amazon page for your work. - Location of infringing material
You can enter up to 1000 pirate sites in this box. Of course, you need to make sure that all sites you enter here actually offer your title for illegal download. - Sworn Statements
Make sure you read these, and check the boxes. Most importantly, you have to accept that a copy of your statement will be sent to the Lumen project (an online database of DMCA takedown notices). - Signature
Simply enter the current date and your name
That's it. Click 'Submit' to send it off.
Step 3: Follow-Up
Google usually needs a few days to process your complaint.
You can view the status of your complaint in the Removal Dashboard.

Autocomplete is a default feature of many web browsers that attempts to anticipate what you are typing and suggests how to complete it. If you press Enter, the application automatically completes your typing with the remainder of the suggested text.
For example, if you type goog in your browser's address bar, the browser may suggest google.com by displaying the letters you haven't typed yet. If you press Enter, the browser goes to that website.
